Class 5 Harvest Assembly Performance

Class 5 Update

Firstly, I’d like to say a big well done to all of the children for their Celebration Assembly performance!  They all did brilliantly and it was lovely to see so many family and friends there.

English

In English this week the children completed an independent write, writing a soliloquy as one of the characters in Macbeth.  It was wonderful to see how much progress they have made since September.  They also completed a reading comprehension and a grammar quiz.

Maths

In maths this week, the children have been using their reasoning skills to solve problems.  We have also been revising units from the first half of the term, ready to start our work on fractions after half term.

D.T

The children have enjoyed baking their bread rolls this week.  They worked in pairs following their own recipes, and enjoying having a sample of their goods this afternoon!

R.E

This week the children supported the learning of the Class 3 children, creating short role plays depicting the story of Christmas.  We discussed who Jesus was and started explaining why he is so special.  This is in preparation for next half term’s RE topic of Creation in Christianity.

Class 5 Homework

Class 5 homework over half term is revising some of the trickier concepts we have learned in maths this half term.

Year 5 will be multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000, and Year 6 will be solving problems using their knowledge of ‘Order of Operations’ (BODMAS/BIDMAS, follow link for more information BODMAS/BIDMAS ).  I would like your child to complete the highlighted sections on their sheet.

This homework is due back by Wednesday 1st November.

Final Forest School for Year 5

We had a lovely final Forest School session on Wednesday. The children collected lots of sticks for the fire and then enjoyed a hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows. I have really enjoyed having year 5 for Forest School and thank you all for being such a great experience!

Forest School Session 5

Last weeks Forest School saw children making very creative pieces of art out of natural materials and great shelter building!

Assembly request!

Please could all Class 5 children come to school on Friday wearing a black outfit? This can be black leggings/trousers and a black tshirt/jumper, or a black skirt and black tights.  If you don’t have any black clothing then dark grey or navy is fine.  We would be grateful if the children could bring their school polo-shirt and jumper/cardigan to change into after the assembly.

We are really looking forward to Friday and hopefully we will see you there!

Secondary School Applications

Shropshire Council have asked us to remind Year 6 parents of the need to submit your application by 31st October. Please see further detail below:
A couple of the secondary schools are already very close to their admission number with 1st preferences so it is to the parent/carer’s advantage to ensure their applications are submitted on time.

Late applications are considered last, once all the on time applicants have been allocated their school places. This means that the pupil is at risk of not being allocated a place at their catchment/nearest or preferred schools.
Thank you

Class 5 Homework

I would like the children to complete a reading comprehension for their homework this week. We have practised writing answers to comprehension questions a lot in class, so I would like to see the children working independently to apply this in their homework.

Homework is due back by Wednesday 18th October.
