What might it be like for a visitor with dementia in our school?

Worship council have been experiencing the difficulties people with dementia might have, when visiting our school.

Reverend Dave made adaptations to the children’s sight, hearing and physical movements. We walked through the school, completing tasks that visitors would need to do. We talked about how the difficulties affected the way we did things and how we felt when doing it. This helped us think about the adaptations we could make to the school, to make it easier and comfortable for visitors.

Human rights and British values in Maple Class

Maple Class have been learning about Malala Yousafzai and her campaigning for equality of education for girls and boys.  Today they learned about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and how they link to British and school values.  They took part in a discussion in which groups were asked to order certain rights from most to least important, in their view.  The most important is at the top, least at the bottom.  The ones left to the side were not decided on by the end of the activity.

The pictures below are certainly food for thought!

Year 4 Dodgeball

A group of Year 4 children travelled to the Corbet School on Wednesday to take part in a Dodgeball tournament.  They were excellent ambassadors for our school and had a thoroughly enjoyable morning finishing in 6th place.   Well done Year 4!

Mad Viking raids Bicton!

A Viking skald ( a Norse bard) raided Maple Class on the first day of this spring term for the children’s ideas on synonyms as they began new work in English on Viking kennings (two word riddles) and spells.

He told them about what Vikings were (raiders from Scandinavia) and the legacy they left behind in Britain.  He shared two spells from Odin’s Edda – one of the great collections of Norse poems.

Micro:bit buzzer games

Maple Class continued using their Micro:bits to create a prototype for their buzzer games. They created and tested their code using a range of inputs, outputs and variables. They will continue to create these games over the coming weeks to create their final product.

Micro:bits with Maple

This week, Maple class began coding with our school Micro:bits. Focusing on inputs and outputs, children created name tags using the LED display.
