Loop Explorers

We are delighted that our midweek group for primary school-aged children is now well-established! Seven children, from three different schools, regularly come along. We’ve room for up to twelve children, so if your child would like to join, please do get in touch (revhannahlins@gmail.com). The group meets two Thursdays a month during term-time, 4.30pm-5.30pm at Bicton Church. It is particularly for children who would value time to explore their faith, make friends and learn more about the Bible. Each session, we’ll do practical and interactive activities that are linked to a theme, share news and have a short time of prayer and worship. We’ll spend some time in the church, and some outside- engaging with the natural world.

FOBs Update

We hope you all have settled back in after half-term and are enjoying these few bits of sunshine we’ve been getting!

If you’d like to get involved and join FOBS or just have some ideas to share, please get in touch.  Our next FOBS meeting is on Tuesday, 17 March at 8pm at The Grapes.  Please come along!

We’re now on Instagram and you can message us there!  https://www.instagram.com/friends_of_bicton?igsh=MW5vd2x2Z2tncW9obg%3D%3D&utm_source=qr

We also want to say a HUGE THANK YOU for supporting our sunflower seedling sale for Mothering Sunday!  It was a great success, and we can’t wait to see who grows the tallest sunflower by the Summer Fete!

MARCH

Pre-Loved School Uniform Sale – Support Our School, Help the Planet, Save some pennies! – 24th and 26th March at 3:00pm in the school playground

As Spring is well and truly here, you might be thinking about a wardrobe spring clean.  Rather than leaving pre-loved uniform in cupboards, we’re inviting our school community to give these items a second life.  This is a great opportunity for families to pick up good-quality uniform at very affordable prices while helping reduce waste and supporting our lovely school.

Please consider donating any school uniform or school shoes that your child has outgrown.

Please ensure items are clean and in good condition.

Donations to be left at reception no later than Monday 23rd March.

Thank you for helping us build a more sustainable, supportive school community. Every donation and purchase contributes to our fundraising for the school.

Gardening request

FOBs is keen to keep using our green fingers and to get the children involved with gardening – there are some raised beds at the back of school that we have our eyes on!  In the meantime, we would be very grateful for any spare pots and compost to be donated for starting some tomato plants. We’d also love for any parent or carer who loves gardening to get in touch with us!

Sponsorship

We have a big fundraising goal for the year and will need the help of generous business sponsors to reach our target.  If you would be willing to contact sponsors or indeed provide sponsorship through your own business or employer, we would be very grateful!

As a bit of encouragement for you all, Ian (dad of Rosalie and Angus) is taking part in the Shropshire Triathlon on 13 June 2026 and hoping to raise £1000 for FOBS.  Please support him.

If you have any runs, triathlons, marathons, or anything else coming up, we would love if you would consider sponsoring FOBS as your chosen charity (registered charity no 1093376).

Head of School Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wonderful week we’ve had in school! The children have been in good spirits, helped along by plenty of sunshine earlier in the week. Long may it continue!

This week we’ve been focusing on celebrating reading, something that lies right at the heart of our school community. Classrooms have been buzzing with book discussions, story sharing and activities designed to spark imagination and a love of reading. The children have shown such pride in talking about their favourite books, and it’s been lovely to see them recommending stories to one another.

A huge highlight, of course, was World Book Day. The effort and creativity that went into the children’s costumes was absolutely fantastic! From classic characters to modern favourites, so much imagination went into the day, thank you for your support with this. Staff were just as excited to join in, and it was wonderful to see the whole school united in celebrating the joy of books.

We also held our second running club session this week, and it was another great success. The children’s motivation, teamwork, and energy were wonderful to see. It’s quickly becoming a much‑loved part of the week, and we are so proud of everyone who is taking part.

We are delighted to welcome Miss Merricks back from Uganda today. She has had an incredible and meaningful experience during her visit and has returned full of stories, insights, and inspiration. The children have already enjoyed hearing about her time there, and we know her experiences will enrich many of the things we do in school over the coming weeks.

Looking ahead, we are very excited to welcome parents into school next week on Monday 3.30 – 5pm and Thursday 1 – 5.30pm to share and celebrate the children’s fantastic work. The children are eager to show you what they’ve been learning and creating. If you haven’t yet booked a timeslot, please remember to do so via the school website—your visit means a great deal to the children, and we don’t want anyone to miss out.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We hope you have a restful and enjoyable weekend.

Head of School Message

Dear parents/carers,

We’ve reached the end of our first week back, and what a lovely week it’s been! The children have come back full of smiles, stories, and an impressive amount of energy for February, and it’s been a real pleasure seeing everyone settle in so quickly.

We had our very first Running Club session this morning, and I have to say—it was a brilliant start. A huge well done to all the children who turned up bright and early, ready to run, jog, hop, skip their way around. If this morning is anything to go by, Fridays are going to become a very lively start to the day!

On Thursday, I had the chance to attend a Flourish Education training session. It was all about the unique strengths of small schools and how they can truly thrive at the heart of their communities. I found myself encouraged by all the ways this already rings true here at Bicton—our sense of togetherness, the way families support the school, and how our children really are known as individuals. It was a lovely reminder of just how special our little school is.

Parent–teacher consultation bookings have now gone live, so hopefully everyone has managed to get a time that works for them. If not, just let the office know and we will arrange an alternative date.

Please have a look at the Diary Dates posted this week.  I hope that by giving you these dates well in advance, it gives you chance to make any arrangements you need to.

All in all, it’s been a really positive start to the half term. Thank you for your continued support, the friendly chats at the gate, and the general cheerfulness that makes the school such a wonderful place to be!

Wishing you all a restful weekend.
