Reading the Game

Birch class enjoyed their first ‘Reading the Game’ session this week with Shrewsbury Town in the community. They learnt all about the charitable work they do and began to learn some new footballing skills that they will be developing over the half term.

Dear parents/carers,

We’ve come to the end of our first full week of the term, and what a week it has been! It’s certainly been a very wet one, so please ensure your children are prepared for the weather with suitable waterproof coats..

This month, we’ve launched our value of the month: Perseverance. As part of this, the Worship Council has selected the story of Daniel and the Lion’s Den for the children to learn and reflect on. It’s a powerful tale of courage, faith, and determination—values we hope will inspire the children this term.

In line with our John 10:10 vision of ‘living life in all its fullness’, we encourage parents to share any news or achievements from home. It’s always wonderful to celebrate the milestones and successes our children experience beyond the school gates. You can see an example of this in Olivia’s recent news from Year 6.

In this newsletter, we’ve included the diary dates for the upcoming term. We hope these help you plan ahead and keep track of important events.

Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable weekend—let’s hope the rain clears up and we get some sunshine soon!

Pet Service!

Dear Friends,
This Sunday morning, 11am, we are having a Pet Service at Bicton Church. You are most welcome to bring yours along! Equally, you don’t need a pet in order to attend (!)- all are warmly invited, as it’s an opportunity to thank God for our non-human friends and to celebrate the diversity of life we are blessed with, whatever our circumstances.
If you have a pet but he/she isn’t coming along, you could bring a toy version or something to represent them.
Do join us if you’d like to…
With Blessings,
Hannah x

Cool Kids

Our Cool Kids sessions will be resuming from Monday 15th September.  A letter from Mr Harris with further details will be going home this week.

Club Bookings

Just a reminder that you must book a place/session at any afterschool club on the School Gateway.  Paying for a place without booking will not guarantee a space.

Dinner Money Payments

There has been an issue with our lunch ordering system this week meaning that some families who are entitled to Universal Free School Meals or Free School Meals have been charged in error.

If you were incorrectly charged, you will be refunded to your School Gateway dinner money account.

Harvest Festival – Save the date!

You are warmly invited to join our Harvest Festival service at Bicton Church on Wednesday 8th October at 9.15am. We will be proudly supporting Shrewsbury food bank and welcome donations of non-perishable food items as well as toiletries, cleaning products and household items.

Dear parents/carers,

We’ve had a fantastic first week back at school, and it’s been wonderful to see all the children settling in so well. Despite the wet weather and indoor breaks they have thoroughly enjoyed being back together and are already showing great enthusiasm for the year ahead.  Everyone is looking incredibly smart in their uniforms – thank you for your support in helping the children return ready to learn.

Our teachers and staff have been working hard to ensure all families are connected to Class Dojo. If you’re not yet linked up, please speak to your child’s teacher.

Please remember to check the school website for your child’s PE days, as these may have changed for the new term.

We’re pleased to welcome Miss Owen, who has joined us as the new Teaching Assistant in Maple Class. We’re delighted to have her on the team!

We’re also excited to let you know that ‘Reading the Game’ with Shrewsbury Town FC will begin next week in Birch Class – a brilliant opportunity that combines literacy with sport.

A reminder that clubs are now available to book via School Gateway. Places are filling up fast, so please log in and secure your child’s spot as soon as possible.

Finally, if your child has any asthma, allergies, or specific dietary requirements, please collect a form from the school office. These forms must be completed at the start of each school year, even if there are no changes from last year.

Thank you for your continued support. We’re looking forward to a brilliant term ahead!

Year 6 – Secondary School Applications

Dear Parent

Your child is due to transfer to secondary school in September 2026.  The online application process opens on the 1 September 2025 and closes on 31 October 2025.  A letter will be sent home with your child next week, outlining the process.  Alternatively, please follow this link – Apply to start or transfer school | Shropshire Council  which takes you to the Shropshire Council Admissions website.  Details about secondary school open evenings can be found in the Parents’ Guide to Education in Shropshire booklet, on the same website

Applications received by Shropshire Council after the closing date will be classed as late, which may result in your child being disadvantaged, so please ensure you make your application on-time. Late applications will not be processed until all on-time applications have been offered.

Please note your child’s cohort is larger than in previous years.  You can name up to four schools on your application – we encourage parents to make full use of these preferences.  If only one preference is named, and we cannot offer this, we will have no choice on National Offer Day but to offer a place at the next nearest school with a vacancy, which could be a considerable distance from your home address.

 Kind Regards

The School Admissions Team
