Shrewsbury Town Safety Survey

West Mercia Police, Shropshire Council, Shrewsbury BID and Shrewsbury Town Council have collaborated on a campaign to make the streets of Shropshire safer for women and girls.

Autumn 2022 saw the introduction of Town Rangers, Taxi marshals and Quarry security, and the enhancement of the Street Pastor provision to include a new ‘Safe Place’ within the town centre. We have installed new and improved lighting along the river footpaths, and Shropshire Youth Service have been doing targeted outreach work. West Mercia Police, together with Shropshire council, have worked together to create a ‘Safe Night out’ social media campaign aimed at challenging the behaviour and attitudes of men. You can watch the video on TikTokInstagram, or YouTube. Funded as part of the Government’s Safer Streets 4 initiative, the campaign specifically targets younger people, including students, highlighting verbal abuse, drunken behaviour, and assault.

Work is ongoing, with a focus on sustainability and we are committed in our efforts to keep women and girls safe. We ran a survey in 2022 which helped us understand the feelings of women and girls who work, live, and socialise in Shrewsbury Town Centre and as we near the end of the Safer Streets delivery period we are keen to capture again your thoughts and feelings and thank you for your time to complete this short survey – survey link. Survey will close 9th March 2024.

Forest Church Sunday 25th February

Dear Friends,

We’ve had a bit of a break, but Spring is (almost) here! Our next Forest Church is this coming Sunday (25th February), 3pm until 4.30pm.
We’ll be meeting at Huffley Farm. There is plenty of parking. There’s lots to see on the farm, and it might well be muddy, so please dress accordingly! The main focus will be the newborn lambs- there are 25 so far, so we will be able to get a good look at them. Because of the lambs, we do ask that dogs are left at home this time round. We’ll also have plenty of sheepish crafts to do, and there is shelter if it’s wet. There are hot drink facilities, so we can also provide you with a warming cup of tea/ coffee/ hot chocolate. Do bring a picnic to eat at the end if you’d like to.
Directions
At the Ellesmere Road Roundabout, take the A528 towards Wem/ Ellesmere. After a mile or less, you’ll enter Broad Oak, and when you come to the Albright Hussey on the right, take the road directly opposite- on the left. Follow the lane down (watch out for difficult to see speed bumps) and you come to a point (not very far) where the lane divides – fork LEFT there. You go under a pylon, and carry on towards the farm. The postcode is SY4 3AE.
See you soon,
Blessings,
Hannah x

‘On Time’ Week

Next week, we are having another ‘On Time’ week, as part of our drive to improve punctuality. Every child who is in school by 8:45 am will receive a raffle ticket. All tickets (with children’s names on) will go into a draw to win a voucher. If children arrive on time all 5 days, they will receive 5 raffle tickets so the better their punctuality the more chance they have of winning the prize at the end of the week.
