Friday update 01.07.22

Transition day for September classes

On Tuesday 5th July, children will be spending time in their September classes and will be bringing a letter home on Monday with further details.

Parent governor update

We are delighted to inform you that we have three new parent governors, who sent in nominations for our vacancies last week:

  • Marian Owoniyi
  • Ian Simons
  • Sian Tiplady

Our third vacancy became available following Jessica Greenwood standing down as parent governor, as her child will be leaving our school this term. We look forward to them being part of our governing body and getting to know our school in more detail.

On behalf of our whole school community, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jessica Greenwood and Richard Jeffries, both of whom have made a much valued contribution to our governing body and the development of our school during their time in post.

Parent surveys

Thank you for all the responses to our recent surveys – annual parent survey and Safer School survey. We are delighted to report that 100% of respondees said their child feels safe at our school, and 98% said they would recommend our school to another parent, that their child is happy at our school and that their child does well at our school. This is very reassuring to hear and we thank you for taking the time to share your views with us.

Your comments will support staff and governors in continuing to improve our school. As we introduce any changes next year, in response to comments received, we will keep you fully informed.

Arthog Final Day

Forget showers today … we’ve had torrential rain and wind!
In the 15 times I’ve brought Bicton children to Arthog, this is the worst weather I’ve ever experienced but I can say, with all honesty, that this is the most resilient and well-behaved group of children that I have ever brought away.

Arthog Day 1

We had a brilliant first day, despite the showers. The children loved doing the night line but let’s just say it was a lot slippier than they expected! Most of the photos of Friday night are of my group but we’ll get some photos from the other groups posted as soon as we get time!

Safer School Parent Survey

Safer School Initiative (see below for link to online survey)

The Safer School initiative, created by West Mercia Police and supported by Shropshire Council, is a school security initiative that encompasses personal safety.

As part of our Safer School accreditation, we survey parents annually about our school grounds/site. The responses are reviewed and discussed at a Safer School meeting with school representatives.

The essential elements of the package are as follows: –

  1. Implement basic security measures applicable at all schools i.e. property marking, and visitor passes etc.
  2. Consider pro-active security/safety measures for the site/building and/or protecting assets.
  3. Establish a procedure for recording incidents i.e. anti social behaviour, vandalism etc. Any recorded information can then be analysed. In addition, the same recording procedure can be used for surveying a problem i.e. an unauthorised thoroughfare.
  4. If there are any projects to be undertaken, they are prioritised. Following the implementation of a project, the success of it is reviewed.
  5. PSHE or education of pupils as per the Safer School pack.

As part of the process, we would appreciate your views. Please click below to complete the short online form and we thank you for taking the time to do so.

Weekly News 17.06.22

Hello everyone,

I hope you’ve coped ok with the very warm weather this week!

Well done to Birch and Hazel class for their amazing attitude on our Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre visit this week. Several members of the general public stopped Bicton staff to comment on the children’s impeccable behaviour, which made us very proud of them all!

Arthog – REMINDER

If you haven’t already done so, please return any medication permission forms on Monday. Remember, we cannot administer any medication nor should children bring anything with them – prescribed or non-prescribed – that we have not been informed about, without the correct forms. This is part of our safeguarding and health and safety procedures. Please note, this includes asthma inhalers which children do not already have in school, hayfever relief and travel sickness tablets.

Annual parent survey

Thank you for taking the time to respond to our annual parent survey. If you haven’t already done so, the online form (below) will stay open until next Friday and we thank you in advance for sparing a few minutes to complete it.

Parent governor elections

Your child has been given a paper copy of the below letter today. Apologies for the wrong date on the 2nd page of the paper copy – it should have said 17th June not 17th March!

Half-term news 31.05.22

Hello everyone,

Apologies for not sending this out sooner!

On behalf of all our staff and pupils, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone  for making last week such an amazing week  for our school community. We wanted our week of activities to be memorable for the children so that they can look back on it in years to come and remember what they did in school for the Platinum Jubilee, just like I’m sure many of you have fond memories of previous Jubilee celebrations.

It was great to see so many of you at our craft mornings and as for the Friday afternoon … it surpassed our wildest dreams! It was wonderful to have so many families join us for the afternoon picnic and to see the children so happy and excited and just enjoying spending time together in such glorious weather!

A huge thank you to FOBS for all their efforts (especially the Pimm’s!) and their relentless hard work in raising funds for our school and nursery. Thank you to everyone who donated goods for the refreshments or the raffle and to everyone who supported FOBS in visiting their stalls.

At the end of this news, there is a Jubilee photo gallery for you to enjoy.

Thanks again and I hope you enjoy your own Jubilee celebrations this weekend x

Year 5/6 reminders

Please remember to return any outstanding reply slips for Polished Brass and also swimming (1st swimming session is on Monday afternoon so don’t forget your kit.)

Please can Year 5/6 parents also complete the online form for Relationships and Sex Education. Thank you if you have already done so.

Annual school photos

The photographers are in school on Thursday 9th June. Younger siblings who do not attend nursery can have their photo taken with siblings who attend our school and nursery.  This will be before the start of the school day in the Hall but I will ask the school office to send a message out on Monday about what time you should arrive from.

Children in school and nursery will be taken to the Hall during the morning to have individual and class photos, as well as with their siblings who are in school/nursery.

If you have a child in nursery but they do not attend on Thursdays, you can bring them to the Hall before the start of the day to have their photo taken.

Platinum Jubilee celebration and teddy bear parachute drop at Bicton Church

Saturday, 4th June – 11am – 1pm – held outside weather permitting so bring a picnic, chair or rug
A date for your diary – the return of the Teddy Bear Parachute Drop at Bicton! This year it’ll be on Saturday, 4th June, 11am-1pm. We will be combining it with tea and cake (provided) for the Platinum Jubilee, and we hope to be outdoors, so do bring a rug or garden chair. It will be a fun morning for all the family and all are welcome. If you’d like to take part you just need to bring a teddy bear with a home-made parachute attached. There is a target on the ground, and we drop the bears from the top of the tower. There are prizes for the winners!

Weekly News 13.05.22

Hello everyone,

There are a few bits of information which I need everyone to read this week please and I thank you in advance for doing so.

Well done to our amazing Year 6s for their hard work and perseverance this week when completing their SATs, and a big thank you to the rest of the school for making sure they were as quiet as possible!

Parking on Bicton Lane

Please do not park on the yellow zig zag lines on Bicton Lane or on/near the pedestrian crossing, as this makes crossing the road very dangerous to pedestrians and is a hazard to other vehicle users. We thank you in advance for adhering to this request and keeping the families coming to and from our school safe.

Messages for class teachers

If your child is absent from school, arriving late/leaving early due to a hospital or emergency medical/dentistry appointment, or is being collected by another adult, please inform the school office or leave an answerphone message.

Messages sent to teachers via Class Dojo may not be seen before the start of the school day and will not be picked up if teachers are absent due to illness, meaning the school office will not be aware of any messages and will not know if and why a child is absent. Thank you for your support with this.

PE kit – reminder

Please ensure that your child wears the correct PE kit for their PE days, as follows:

  • Plain blue or white t-shirt or school logo PE t-shirt (No other t-shirts should be worn.)
  • Plain black or navy shorts / jogging bottoms / leggings (Football kit should not be worn.)
  • School sweatshirt  or a plain royal blue or navy sweatshirt / hoodie
  • Pumps / trainers
