Class 2 cooking club

To start us off nice and easy, we made cupcakes today. The children had lots of fun and we all tried really hard not to eat them all before we got home. They smelt so yummy!

Tuesday 9th September

Class One have had another busy day today. We enjoyed looking through quite a few of the Home Learning Journey books this morning and sharing pictures and information from home. We have worked together to play lots of number and shape games too and some children have also worked with adults to carry out focused number tasks. The children recalled Letters and Sounds from previous days and have found out about the letter ‘n’ today. We also decorated our gingerbread people and have spent time playing and sharing together in our outdoor area.

Health and Hygiene

We have been informed of a couple of cases of headlice and threadworms in school at the moment.  If you have any concerns or queries regarding either of these, information can be found on the NHS website http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Pages/hub.aspx

The children have been busy doing Letters and Sounds activities (lots of letter recognition activities and even a spelling quiz for the Year 1’s). They have also been very busy baking Gingerbread people. The children enjoyed helping to get all of the ingredients ready and mixing them altogether. Some children volunteered to show photos of their family and talk about who is in their family. At the same time, some children enjoyed learning their numbers through a game called ‘Run, run as fast as you can’ relating to the Gingerbread man story. The Year 1 children worked with myself during assembly time this morning to explore a set of instructions for baking Gingerbread people. The children needed to work together to decide upon the correct order of the instructions and used their Letters and Sounds knowledge to read the instructions carefully.

This afternoon, we are looking forward to PE in the hall – the children will be exploring different ways of moving in and out of each other and being careful not to bump into each other. We will also be getting out mats for the children to move in and out of.

The children were hoping to bring their gingerbread people home tonight but these will be home tomorrow – once we have had time to decorate them!

Weekly News 05.09.14

The first week has ‘flown’ and the children seem to have enjoyed their new classes and are settling into their class routines well.

Clubs

Football Club for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will restart on Tuesday 9th September. It will finish at 4:30 and children may go in to Film Club afterwards but will still need to pay £1:50 for Film Club please.

Please could we ask that any monies for Clubs (Craft, Film or Breakfast) be in envelopes clearly labelled with your child’s name and class.

We had a fantastic turnout at our Cross Country Club today and children who had not taken part before joined in very well. Thank you to the adults who accompanied us.

Hope you all have a good weekend and thank you as always for your support.

Mrs Natalie Johnson

Mrs Foster’s New Arrival

We thought you would be pleased to hear about Mrs Foster’s new arrival Benjamin David born on Friday 25th July weighing 6lbs 15ozs.

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Foster and big sister Phoebe!

Welcome to Class One!

The children have had a great day in Class One! They have all enjoyed getting to know each other and have been very busy! This morning we read the book ‘The Rainbow Fish’ and discussed the meaning of the story. We talked a lot about friendship. The children told each other their ideas about what makes a good friend and we made a record of their ideas. They all had lovely ideas such as being kind, being helpful, sharing toys and being happy together. The children then started to decorate a scale to make a large class fish on a display board.

The children have shared books and have enjoyed circle time together. They were all very good in the hall at lunch time and had a good time playing on the field together.

Letters and Sounds – we looked at the letter ‘s’ today. We made the ‘ssss’ sound and found out the letter name. Lots of children tried very hard to form the letter ‘s’ in their Busy Bee books. The Year One children enjoyed working together to write a list of words that have ‘s’ at the start or somewhere in the word. They were very good at being organised and worked mostly independently and tried really hard to make sure their handwriting was clear.

We all enjoyed some indoor and outdoor child initiated time towards the end of the day.

Class 5 News

Year 6s have certainly shown today that they are ready to take on the responsibility of ‘being Year 6s’ and Year 5 children seem to be settling into Class 5 well – so far so good!

As your child may have already come home and explained, Mrs Chadwick will be leaving to go on maternity leave in a matter of weeks so will be teaching Class 5 with myself for the next few weeks. Mr Kelly will also be teaching in Class 5 on Wednesday afternoons and Thursday mornings.

Should you have any queries or questions, please do not hesitate to speak to me.

Thanks for your support.

Mrs Natalie Johnson

Welcome Back

Welcome back to all the children and their families;  it was lovely to catch up with several parents this morning.

Staff have been really impressed and pleasantly surprised with how children in all classes have settled into school today. Children were all keen to catch up with and make new friends, as well as share their news and scrapbooks from the summer holidays.

Clubs

The after-school clubs are currently being updated on the website calendar.  Please could we ask you to write a message in your child’s home-school/link book if they are staying for clubs; hopefully older children will be able to remember if they are staying! This will save Mrs Jones or Mrs Neal having to contact you if your child is unsure about after-school arrangements.

Free school Meals

Further to the letter you received from us before the end of last term, just a reminder that all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are now automatically eligible for free school meals.  Could we please ask that you still inform school if you are in receipt of welfare benefits, as this may entitle Bicton School to register for additional funding.

Many thanks.

Mrs Natalie Johnson
