Monday and Tuesday in Class One

Yesterday the children decorated clay shoes that they had made last week. The children designed a pair of shoes as we have been reading the story of The Elves and the Shoemaker.

We had a Mathematics session in the afternoon – we used a new resource called Numicon and some children used a number track to carry out addition questions.

Please see photo sheets.

Today, we have written letters to the Elves to say thank you from the Shoemaker. The Year One children also looked closely at the structure of a letter. We tried hard to think of our addresses too! We also talked about how an email is different to a letter.

This afternoon we have been on the field practising Sports Day activities.

Class 2 had a very wet morning!

This morning we have been learning about capacity. Some of us were comparing different containers and which container held the most water and some of us were estimating and measuring how many cups of water a container held. We had lots of fun splashing about and luckily it was a sunny playtime to dry off! (Apologies for the quality of some photos).

Planting beans

This week Class 1 planted beans and will be using their mathematical skills over the next few weeks to measure how tall they grow. They also made ‘giant’ castles and planted these in their pots to see how far their beanstalks reach.

In the woods

This week when Class 1 went to the woods we used our story focus on ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ to collect leaves and describe them.  Then the children worked in small groups to sort the leaves into groups using a Venn diagram.   Some children were asked to sort the leaves into more groups.

NSPCC

Thank you for everyone’s efforts with the NSPCC fundraising.  Their representative visited school yesterday to collect the monies raised which was almost £500 and there are still monies coming in.

Sports Day – Kit and lunch

All classes are busy practising for Sports Day the week after next.  Please could children have their PE kit in school every day next week so that the office staff do not have to phone for it to be brought into school.  The kitchen will be serving a packed lunch on Sports Day (Tuesday 23rd June) consisting of a hotdog and pizza, pasta/chips, a cookie/muffin and a drink.  This will replace the normal advertised menu and will be available to all children.  You are more than welcome to join us and bring your own packed lunch. If we have to cancel because of unsuitable weather, our reserve date is Thursday 25th June.

Brass Extravaganza

If any Year 5/6 children would like to perform at the Brass Extravaganza and have not returned their permission slip, please can these be returned early next week.

Class 1 PE

This term Class 1 will be playing tennis outside as part of our PE lessons.  As the weather is getting warmer please can you ensure your child brings in suncream, a sun hat and a water bottle for these lessons.

Also when they come into school on a Friday morning they can come into class straight away to get changed into their PE kit.  Once they have changed they will need to put their school clothes in their locker and go outside as normal until the bell rings.

Many thanks, Mrs Thomas

Choir

I just wanted to say a huge well done to all the choir that took part in the competition at Concord College today. You all did a fantastic job and sang beautifully. The standard of behaviour was exceptional and all the children did Bicton School very proud. The judges even commented that our song choices were ‘brave’ and the children certainly showed that they were able to rise to the challenge!  Thank you to Mrs Roberts, Mrs Hughes, Mrs Jones and all the parents that came along to support the choir – I hope you enjoyed it as much as the children and myself did.
