Choir – Bicton Summer Fair

The choir are performing at the village summer fair tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock.  They have been busy practising songs for the event and we hope to see as many children there as possible.

Celebration Assembly

If you would like to make a donation towards Mr Davies’ leaving gift, it can be left at the office in an envelope.  Many thanks for the donations received so far.

Please remember to use the village hall car park once the school car park is full, rather than park on Bicton Lane.  We aim to start the assembly at 9:25 and hope to see as many people there as possible to join us in celebrating the children’s achievements and to say goodbye to Mr Davies.

Shropshire Sings

We have only had a small number of replies from children to say that they are taking part in Shropshire Sings on Wednesday evening. Unfortunately, if we do not receive more replies on Monday we will sadly have to withdraw from the concert.  If this is the case, we will let everyone know on Monday and money for tickets already purchased will be refunded.

Year 5 Parents’ Lunch

Year 5 parents and grandparents are welcome to join us for lunch next week any day from Tuesday to Friday.  Year 6 parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters etc can join us for lunch following the Leavers’ Assembly on the last day of term on Thursday 16th July.

Sunsafe

Thank you for sending children in to school with a hat and with suncream applied.  There is always water available for children to get a drink in school but they might want to bring in their own bottle of water to drink during the day.

KS1 Athletics Festival/Year 6 Science Day

Please can permission slips be returned for the above events at The Corbet on Wednesday 8th, if you haven’t done so already.

Investigating plants and flowers

This afternoon Class 1 went on a ‘Plant Hunt’ around school to find as many different plants and flowers as they could.  They looked at describing them and trying to name them if possible. We also started looking at some of the main parts of a plant – petals, stem and leaves.  We will do some more investigating on this next week.

Class 4 visit to Barnabas Church

We had a great time this morning at Barnabas Church learning about the church and how it helps the community. We had a Q&A time with Terry, the leader of the church and then we had a tour of the church looking at what all the different rooms are used for and we had a peek in the food bank to see how much food people donate to help others. We will be using everything we learned in some future RE lessons but for now, here are some of the photos from our visit.

Wishes, spells and fairy houses!

This morning, the children worked hard to write spells and wishes. Last Monday we visited the woods to collect items from the environment in a ‘fairy’ or ‘wizard’ cup. The children then chose a ‘stirrer’ to mix their fairy or wizard potion. They thought of a wish as they stirred their potion and some started to cast spells. This morning the children had chance to record their wishes and spells by writing them down.

This afternoon, we spent most of the afternoon in the woods. The children were excited to find out that they could work in pairs to build a fairy or a wizard house. Please see the photo sheet attached for further information.

Mr Davies – Leaving gift

Mr Davies has kindly accepted our invitation to attend our Celebration Assembly on the morning of Friday 10th July.  We would like to buy a gift for him to show our gratitude for all he has done for the school since he started working here in 2003.  If you would like to make a contribution towards the gift, please could it be given in to your child’s class teacher or the school office in an envelope.  Thank you.

Bicton Summer Fair

The choir will be singing at the village fair on Saturday 4th July. (Time to be confirmed)

Reporting absence

Please could we remind parents and guardians to telephone school before 9:30 if your child is ill and will not be in school. A message can be left on the answerphone if the office is not manned.

Envelopes

At this busy time of year, with lots of different events happening, please could we ask that any money sent in to school is in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name, class and what the money is for.

Shropshire Sings

The children have been busy practising the songs for Shropshire Sings on 8th July.  If you haven’t already purchased a ticket from the school office, there are still some available.

Sports Day Thank You

On behalf of all the staff and children, we would like to thank everyone who came to watch the Sports Day events on Tuesday.  The children behaved impeccably and it was wonderful to see such sporting behaviour and perseverance, as well as lots of smiles and plenty of laughter.  We don’t normally mention children by name on the website but we think you’ll agree that Ernie deserves a special mention for his amazing commentary and for keeping everyone amused albeit a little bit anxious at times about what he was going to say next!

We are going to look through the photos tomorrow which were taken by Class 5 but it may take some time; some of you may remember reading last year how they took around 1,000 photos of the day and we suggested not taking so many this year.  They must have forgotten about this in their excitement at watching the events, as there are over 1,700 photos this year!

Thanks again

Mrs Johnson and staff
