Parents’ Evenings

On behalf of all the staff, thank you for your support and comments at Parents’ Evenings this week.  If you were unable to meet with you child’s/children’s teacher/teachers, you are welcome to make an appointment to see them if you have not already done so.

Great Shrewsbury Run

Our grand total raised as a result of last Friday’s run/walk is an incredible £932.60! This is an amazing achievement and we would like to thank the children for their efforts and everyone who sponsored them. If you do still have any sponsor money to send in, please could you do so by Monday 19th at the very latest.

Harvest Celebration Assembly

Next Friday is our Harvest Celebration Assembly and we are looking forward to seeing each class ‘perform’ in front of parents, grandparents and family members. We aim to start at 9:25 and ask you not to park on Bicton Lane, once the school car park is full, but to use the car park at the village hall instead. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

Harvest Donations

If you are able to donate any produce, tinned goods, biscuits etc. for our Harvest Assembly, we would be very grateful.  Items can be left at the school office and will be delivered to St Winefrides soup kitchen next weekend.  Many thanks.

We’re going on a smell walk!

This afternoon children in Class One explored the school grounds finding lots of different smells.

They came up with lots of different words to describe the smells in the environment.

More smells!

Today Table 2 had a go at identifying the mystery smells.

We talked about how are sense of smell can warn us if something is dangerous to eat or drink and how we should never drink anything that we don’t know what it is.

Can you tell by looking at the bottles what they contain?  Our sense of smell helped us identify the liquids.

Letters and sounds

Reception children have been very busy learning their letters and sounds today.  They have been revising all the sounds taught so far.  Today they used the new interactive board to play a game where they had to make the word by choosing the correct phonemes.

Class 2 Celebration Assembly

Dear Parents/Carers,

Next Friday will be celebration assembly and Class 2 will be linking their presentation to our Science topic ‘Seasonal Changes’.

I would like the children to wear specific clothes for our performance, according to the group I have put them in (a letter is being sent home with your child). They can either come to school Friday morning dressed in these clothes (with their school uniform to change into after the assembly) or they can bring their clothes to change into first thing. The different groups and ideas for clothes they should wear are:

Autumn – red, yellow, brown, golden clothes with cardigans, jumpers, leggings.

Winter – coats, gloves, scarves, hats, etc.

Spring – umbrellas, rain coats, wellies, flowery clothes.

Summer – sun hats, sun glasses, dresses, shorts, t-shirt (you may want your child to get changed in school before assembly if they are in this group).

Please come and see me if you have any questions or problems.

Thank you for your support.

Miss Edwards

A week of smells

This week the children will be exploring different smells.

They will be identifying mystery smells, talking about how our sense of smell can tell us if there is danger, discussing smells they like and dislike.

Today table 1, played the mystery smell game!

For help with the letter pronunciations here is a link with many videos, which cover all that we teach in school, plus the option to download phonics apps.     http://mrthorne.com/

Another useful video to watch on pronunciation can be found here –  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5J2Ddf_0Om8

We also use the TES iboard phonics programs in school which really help the children to blend and segment.  http://www.iboard.co.uk/teacher/bictonclass1/1

The children have also been learning songs to go with each letter sound, you can practise these at home too – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5J2Ddf_0Om8

Celebration Assembly

Dear Parents/Carers,

Next Friday will be celebration assembly and Class 4 are going to link their performance to the Stone Age. Over the next few days we will be sending bits home for children to learn in addition to the Cave Baby song by Julia Donaldson. We have included a link to this on YouTube and would be grateful if children could learn this at home this week.

Cave Baby Song

We would also like children to bring and wear a Stone Age costume. We have included some ideas below. (Children will be able to wear their costumes again for Stone Age Day next half term!) If you don’t have any fur or animal print at home, old dark cloths will be fine!

This will take the place of homework this week.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs Chadwick and Mrs Foster
