Class 3 Weekly Update

It’s been another great week in Class 3…

English: The children have enjoyed continuing to read some Roman Myths. We have done some role-play based on these and some grammar and spelling work – revising how to correctly punctuate speech and revision of adding the suffix ‘ly’ to adjectives to make adverbs.

Maths: We have moved onto shape this week. We have been learning about right angles and lines of symmetry as a way of describing a wide variety of shapes. The children have been learning how to spot these, particularly within shapes they are unfamiliar with.

Science: The children have been investigating different types of rocks this week. We have carried out some investigations to test the hardness of rocks and to find out if a rock is permeable.

RE: We have been learning about the Holy Trinity this week. The children have been looking at how Christians describe God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Computing: The children have enjoyed investigating the computer program ‘Scratch’ this week.

PSHE: We have discussed being different and how this can sometimes make us feel. We then discussed various different emotions that we feel at different times. All Class 3 staff were very proud of how open the children were and how sensitive they were towards each other.

Well done Class 3! Have a lovely weekend!

Meaures in maths

This week the children have been very busy weighing and balancing items.  They have been using comparative language to compare the weights of parcels and have ordered parcels from lightest to heaviest.

The children have also cooked porridge and have had to weigh out the oats to make it ‘just right!’.  Just like in the story of the 3 Bears.

Phonics

This week the children in Class 1 have been reading and spelling words with split digraphs:

a- e – Make a cake

i-e – A nice smile

o-e Phone home

u-e Huge brute

Class 3 Weekly Update

Class 3 have been working hard this week…..

English: We have been reading some Roman myths in English this week. The children have really enjoyed discussing different characters and learning about some of the Roman Gods. They have had a go at re-telling a myth using their own descriptive language. We have also revised some grammatical terms such as nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs and adverbial phrases.

Maths: The children have continued to use a number line for division this week, with all children working independently as well as some progressing onto using a blank number line. We have moved onto solving division problems which have remainders and have applied our knowledge to one of our favourite maths stories today called ‘A remainder of one’.

Science: The children have become rock detectives this week to kick off our new topic! They spent some time observing, sketching and labelling some rocks before finding out their names.

History: This week we have been finding out the different countries the Romans invaded and when they invaded them.

RE: We have been discussing the similarities and differences between an infant and adult baptism.

PE: The children have done some fitness activities and have begun to learn some country dancing.

PSHE: The children were asked to make some New Year’s resolutions this week linked to home, school, friends etc.

Spellings: The children have come home with spelling homework this week – they need to write their spellings in a sentence. This is particularly important for the children who have been given homophones for their spellings this week.

Well done Class 3 for another week of hard work. Enjoy the weekend!

Weekly News 13.01.17

Head Lice – Reminder

Following last week’s newsletter, please could we ask you to check your child’s/children’s hair for head lice.  We are aware that some children in school have needed treatment again this week, after also needing treatment last week. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

KS2 Cross Country

Several KS2 children expressed an interest in taking part in the final event in The Corbet’s cross country league on Monday 16th after school.   If your child is taking part, please return reply slips on Monday morning (if you have not done so already) so that we have an idea of numbers. Thank you

Quick Sticks Hockey

Well done to the group of children who competed in the hockey tournament at The Corbet earlier this week. Mrs J was very proud of you!

Morning Routines

Now that things are back to normal, and the children are entering their classroom through the infant playground in the morning, just to clarify that we would prefer for children to go into class straightaway when they arrive and not to stay out on the playground.  During the autumn term we found that children settled much quicker and it prepared them for the day ahead by going straight into class so we are keen to continue this.  If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to speak to me or your child’s class teacher (s).

Allergy Forms

Thank you for the allergy forms returned to date.  We will presume that children for whom we have not received a form do not have any allergies.

Year 5 Bikeability

Please could the Bikeability letters be returned as soon as possible.

Pantomime – Advance Notice

We have booked seats for all classes to see the pantomime at Theatre Severn in December.  We thought we’d mention it now just in case you were super organised and decided to buy tickets yourself!  A letter regarding costs and times etc will be sent out in September.

Snow

In the event of bad weather, please check to see if the School is open before travelling to the site. This can be done by:

  • Checking the school website
  • Listening to BBC Radio Shropshire 96.00 FM for the list of school closures
  • Checking the list of school closures on www.shropshire.gov.uk

If the school is closed, we will try and make a decision as early as possible and will intend to re-open as soon as we can. Please refer to the snow and bad weather guidance in the public area of our school website (Policies page) for more information.

Have a good weekend.
