Homework: Junk model musical instrument

Over the half term we would like children in Class 1 to make a musical instrument to bring into school on the first week back.  We would love to see what they can create using empty cereal boxes/tubes/ food packaging etc.  Don’t forget to put photos up on Tapestry of their creating.

The children will then get a chance to show the rest of the class their handiwork and the whole class will use them as part of our Mardi Gra celebrations.

We are also collecting junk modelling  so that the children can do more junk modelling during Child Initiated times.

Village walk

Class 1 have been finding out about what different buildings are used for in the local area.  Today we went on a walk to find out more.

We saw the church that Harry’s Mum and Dad got married in and where we did our school play.  The Village Hall where Maisie and several other children have had their birthday parties.  The football field where the children do cross country and the play park – which we enjoyed using 🙂

We talked about all the different things in the village and why they are important.  Lots of children thought our school is one of the most important buildings so that children can learn.

This week we have been thinking about newspaper reports. Linking to our class story ‘Funnybones’ the children imagined that they were in the story and have written newspaper reports about what they saw and heard the night the skeletons made lots of noise.

Maths

We have moved onto looking at capacity this week – the children have enjoyed measuring how much a container holds either using cupfuls (year 1) or millilitres and litres (year 2).

Science

The children have sorted materials using different criteria this week e.g. soft/hard, rough/smooth, transparent/not transparent, bendy/not bendy.

History

We have learned about who lives in castles this week and looked at the different jobs they do. The children enjoyed saying which job they’d have liked if they lived in the medieval times.

Year 1: Alternative pronunciation of ‘y’, ‘ch’ and ‘ou’ grapheme.

Year 2: Homophones (words that sound the same but have a different spelling and different meaning).

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: This week we have started to learn about information texts. We have discussed the key features of an information text and tried to find these within some actual information books. We have been doing some grammar work on past and present tense as well as finding different types of words – nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs and prepositional phrases within pieces of writing.

Maths: We have continued our work on fractions this week. We begun the week by solving problems to make some cakes. Then we moved onto learning how to add fractions with the same denominator, using lots of apparatus and pictures to help us.

Science: We have been learning what a fossil is and some of the processes that can create fossils.

RE: The children have written some lovely kenning poems to describe the Holy Trinity.

History/Art: We have continued to design and make our Roman shields.

PE: The children have continued to learn some country dancing and have been creating their own fitness circuits.
