Class 4 Update

This week in English, the children wrote about the main character of our class novel ‘After Tomorrow.’  We then went on to to pick out the main themes of the novel, showing them in freeze frames and finding evidence of them in the book.  The children will be using these ideas in their writing next week.

In maths we have been learning about how to find the perimeter, area and volume of shapes.  We are now going over work on place value and practising multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100.

In science the children have looked at what happens when different materials are mixed with water.  This week they had to work out how to separate 4 different mixtures using sieving, filtering, heat and magnets.

In DT we are starting to look at purses and wallets and have practised our sewing skills this afternoon, ready to design and make our own purses or wallets in the coming weeks.

Finally in history the children have continued to look at Viking trade and consider what items would have been most valuable to trade with.

Class 3 Weekly Update

It’s been another hard working week in Class 3!

English: We have continued our work on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with the children doing some role play as the children who won the tickets. We have read the part in the story where the children go into the Chocolate Room and have imagined what it was like, role playing our emotions and then writing a detailed description.

Maths: We have continued our measurement work this week and have been measuring how tall we are using metres and cm and converting between the two. We have also been doing some money work, learning about place value within money and comparing different amounts.

History: This week we went into the hall with our Roman Shields and pretended to be Roman Soldiers. We learned about the different formations the Roman Army used and talked about why these were effective. The children had great fun re-creating these formations in small groups.

Computing: The children have used all they have learned the past few weeks to create a poster with both text and images in publisher.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Class 3 Spellings – to be tested on Friday 24th March

Week 24

Weekly News 17.03.17

Parents’ Evenings – No Clubs

Just a reminder that there are no clubs after school on Tuesday or Thursday next week because of parents’ evenings.

Head lice

We have had several reports of head lice in school this week.  Please could you check your child’s hair this weekend and treat as necessary.  It would also be helpful if long hair could be tied up/plaited etc and please encourage your child not to take their hair down during the day and keep their hair up. I have spoken to several parents this week who are understandably frustrated at having to repeatedly treat their child’s hair because they come home from school with head lice yet again.  Your support with this would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Comic Relief Day

Next Friday 24th March is Comic Relief Day.  Children are invited to come to school wearing something red and pay 50p towards the Comic Relief charity.  We will also be holding a cake sale at break time so any donations or cakes/biscuits would be very welcome. Thank you in advance for your support.

Condover Final Payment

Just a reminder that the final payment for Condover of £35 must be received by Friday 24th March.

Letters out this week

Dodgeball letter – Year 5 children involved

Condover key info and kit list – Year 3/4

Headlice letter – whole school

Have a nice weekend.

Class 2 weekly news

English: In English this week the children have continued to look at their senses and have used these to write poems. They have been using their describing skills to improve poems using adjectives.

Maths: The children moved onto division this week. Year 1 have been learning how to share amounts e.g. Share 10 sweets between 2 paper plates. Year 2 have continued to develop their dividing skills with the use of equipment, drawing pictures and using their number facts.

History: This week the children enjoyed looking at the different weapons used in castle times. They then drew the weapons, labelled them and described them to a partner.

Phonics: Year 1 have been learning the alternative spelling of the ‘igh’ phoneme. Year 2 have been recapping the different ways of spelling the ‘oa’ phoneme.

Have a good weekend!

Miss Edwards

Role play

The children wanted to have a Class 1 shop so they could spend their money. They then decided they also wanted a cafe. The children busied themselves making trolleys, tags and credit cards, some even made some magazines to sell.  I am sure they will continue to think of and make things that they want in their Clas s1 shop.

Mini Marathon – Latest News From Nikki!

DESIGN AN OUTFIT COMPETITION
Thank you to all the children and their parents who have taken the time to create an outfit for me. The thought and effort that has been put into them all is wonderful. Choosing a winner is not going to be easy!
The winner will be announced in the celebration assembly on March 31st.
This is also the day of the Mini Marathon.

MINI MARATHON!!
I will be at the school all day to support the children in their efforts. I am training hard every week and have just completed 18 miles. Are any of the children in training?
It may help them to get further on the day!
Every child will take part in doing laps of the field. It doesn’t matter how many they do or how fast they do it. We will count the laps completed throughout the day and see how many Marathons the children can cover between them all!
It’s all about having fun whilst being active and hopefully raising some money for the school through being sponsored by family, friends and neighbours for their efforts.
I have also been busy fundraising; my raffle raised just over £400 and with my family and friends’ donations on top of that,I have raised a total of almost £900 which is brilliant! I would love to get more for the school so I will keep fundraising.
Remember, all the money that I raise and your children raise at the Mini Marathon goes to the school, which will benefit the current and future children of Bicton School.
To thank the children for the efforts on the day and their fundraising, they will all be rewarded with a medal when they have finished their laps of the field just like a real marathon runner!
PLEASE CAN ALL CHILDREN BRING THEIR  SPONSOR FORMS BACK TO SCHOOL FOR THE EVENT (March 31st)
They will be returned to them by the end of the day if necessary, for them to collect any remaining sponsorship (all to be handed in by the 7th April).

Thank you so much in advance for your support with this exciting event.

Special Menu 24.03.17

Following the success of the pizza, pasta and salad bar special lunch, the school kitchen will be serving this menu again next Friday 24th March.

As last time, the kitchen will provide an alternative for those children who do not like pizza or pasta.

Maths – money

Thank you very much for all the donations of 1 pences and 2 pences.  Today the children were using them to play shops.  They  took it in turns to be the shop keeper and customers.  They had to work put how much money they would have left.

We will be continuing with money work over the week, concentrating on subtraction and some children will be recording their number sentences.

Medals Assembly 10.03.17

Today we introduced a new ‘award’ in our weekly medals assembly. One or two children from each class were nominated by their teacher to share a piece of work that they have produced this week which really stood out.  The work shared included science work on solids, liquids and gases, narrative writing on Jack and the Beanstalk, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and setting descriptions and also Winston Churchill fact files. We are looking forward to seeing more children share their work over the weeks ahead.

Well done to Will who was also the recipient of this week’s Secret Teacher award and thank you to Mrs Hughes for being our ‘secret teacher!’
