Saturday at Arthog – Mrs Johnson’s Group

We’ve had a day of sunshine today right up until teatime which was perfect for a morning on the sit-on-tops and an afternoon of raft building which saw some fantastic teamwork! Well done Frankie, Seb W, Kieran, Will L,  Javier, Oliver K, George, Violet, Daisy and Lara. Keep an eye out tomorrow for photos of rock climbing!

Arthog Day 1

We’ve been really lucky with the weather today and, although the skies were grey, the rain held off. It was quite blustery at Fairbourne which was perfect weather for flying kites. The nightline on Friday evening was memorable to say the least and at one point 3 groups merged into 1 with a few stragglers creating their own course much to the staff’s delight! We are looking forward to a full day of activities tomorrow and will post some more photos tomorrow evening.

Class 2 weekly update

English – This week the children have been looking at letters and recapping how to set out a letter in the correct format. They have been looking at formal and informal language and having a go at writing letters for different purposes.

Maths – In Maths this week the children have extended their learning on 2D and 3D shapes. They have been remembering how to use the correct vocabulary when describing a shapes properties e.g. Faces, edges and vertices.

Science – In Science the children enjoyed learning about fruit, vegetables and salad grown on farms and how they come to buy the produce in supermarkets. They then had to explain how they would grow their own produce on their own imaginary farm and what they would do to help it grow healthily.

Geography – In Geography we looked at two different maps. A map of the UK and a map of North America. First we labelled the different countries on each map and then we had a class discussion, comparing the weathers. The children then role played their favourite type of weather and the activities they like doing e.g. Snowballing in the snow, eating ice lollies and sunbathing in the sun.

Have a good weekend.

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: This week we have been focusing on grammar. We have spent some time learning about the present perfect tense. We have been learning how to spot it in sentences, how to say it and how to write it. The children have tried really hard with this but have found it quite challenging so it is something we will be revisiting.

Maths: This week we have continued our work on fractions. The children have solved some problems involving finding fractions of amounts and have been comparing fractions. Some of the year 4 children have been writing fractions as decimals and have learned how to round a decimal to the nearest whole number.

Science: We have been carrying out our investigation this week and have written our results and conclusions.

Geography: We have continued our work on settlements this week by finding out how the names of places in the UK can give us clues to who settled there originally. The children have practised their map reading skills and have labelled some of these places on their own map of the UK.

PE: The children have enjoyed playing rounders this week as well as continuing their Tennis lessons.

RE: The children have been planning their art work based on the Christian Creation Story.

Well done for working hard this week Class 3! Have a lovely weekend!

Forest School

Today we had a special visitor to Forest School and she was very impressed by the children’s behaviour and their confidence to explore the site. We had lots of fun making shelters for toy animals and lots of children found some interesting insects. The children enjoyed having their drink and snack under a shelter, away from the rain.

Green fingers

Just before half term, Class 1 planted out broad beans, radishes, potatoes carrots and lettuce.  The children were very excited to see that they have all been growing.  We asked Sue in the kitchen if she could use some of our produce for school dinners.  Today some of us had salad with the lettuce picked from our garden patch – Yum!

Forest School

Just a reminder that forest school sessions are on tomorrow so the children will need to bring clothes appropriate for the weather (we are expecting rain).

Thank you

Final Gardening Day – A Huge Thank You!

I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came to help at our final gardening day on Saturday.  It was a warm day, to say the least, but Marina and Barbie ensured that we were all well fed and watered to keep us going all day.  They even used the new kitchen in the eco-room to prepare lunch for everyone and it’s great to see it being used outside school as well as during the school day.

Thank you to everyone who has played a part in creating such a beautiful wildlife garden for the children to enjoy for many years to come!
