Class 3 Weekly Update

We have had a fantastic first week back in Class 3!

English: We have watched the beginning of the film ‘Up’ and the children have spent some time discussing and recording predictions of what they think might happen in the story. They have spent some time imagining what it would be like to be in the flying house and thinking about what they could see as they flew away. We used our ideas to write some expanded noun phrases about what we could see.

Maths: We have been focusing on Place Value this week. The children have practised counting in 2’s, 3’s, 5’s, 10’s (Year 2 & 3) and 4’s (Just Year 3) this week through playing  games and completing puzzle activities. We have spent some time building numbers with equipment and matching numerals to written words. The year 2 children have focused on numbers up to 100 and the year 3 children have been focusing on 3 digit numbers.

History: The children have been introduced to their new topic of ‘Explorers’. We did a treasure hunt around the school to find clues about the two famous explorers we will be focusing on – Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus. The children then came up with some questions they have about these explorers and we will aim to find the answers to these during the course of our topic.

PSHE: We have spent some time creating our class rules and thinking about our hopes for the year ahead.

PE: The children have had a dance and a games lesson this week.

French: The children have been introduced to some simple greetings in French.

We have also spent some time talking about the reflection area in our class and how we can use it.

Well done for a brilliant first week Class 3! Keep up the good work!

Weekly News 08.09.17

We have had a lovely first week back and the staff have been amazed at how quickly the children have settled into their classes.

Pupil Premium Funding

If you are in receipt of certain benefits or if your joint family income is below a certain amount, your child may be entitled to free school meals. Registering for free school meals could raise additional funds for school to fund valuable support such as extended school provision or help with paying for trips.  Children in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 are also eligible as this is different funding to the government’s universal infant free school meals.  Please ask at the School Office for an application form or if you have any questions.

Website password

It is time to change our website password and children have been given a competition entry form to enter their suggestion for a new password.

Clubs

Please remember to check the website for the clubs that are running this half term. Football club is only running for Class 3 this half term but we hope to arrange sessions for children in Classes 4 and 5 in preparation for forthcoming tournaments that we have entered. Football club for younger children in Classes 1 and 2 may run later in the spring term.

Fish and Chip Lunch – Colouring Competition

The School kitchen is running a colouring competition to coincide with their Great British Fish and Chip Lunch on Thursday 28th September.  Entries should be returned by Friday 22nd September marked clearly with your child’s name and class.

Music tuition

Music lessons for children who have private tuition in school will resume next week. Keyboard is now on Monday and Wednesday and drums is on Thursday – please can children remember to bring their music books to school.

Purple Mash Online Learning

Children have been given their new log-in details today for Purple Mash, together with a parent information leaflet for children who have just joined the school. If you have any questions about Purple Mash or Mini Mash, please speak to your child’s class teacher(s).

Pantomime Visit

Just to let you know that we have booked tickets for the whole school to see the pantomime in December at Theatre Severn. Details of dates and costs will follow in a letter in the next couple of weeks. Please speak to the School Office if you have any questions in the meantime.

Class 3 Spellings – to be tested on Friday 15th September

8.9.17

Dear Parents/Carers,

The children’s spellings this week are linked to some work we have been doing in maths on matching numerals to written words. Therefore, the children’s spellings this week are all numbers.

Some assessments are currently being carried out, so please bear in mind that it is not unusual for your child to change spelling group over the course of the next few weeks as we assess their spelling needs.

We always emphasise to the children that spelling tests are just a part of their learning and that the most important thing is that they learn the meaning of words and are able to use and spell them correctly within their independent writing. With this in mind, when practising at home with your child it is helpful to ask them to write their spellings in sentences. I have sent home a practise sheet for each group so please feel free to use the back of this to do so.

Many Thanks,

Miss Barratt

Fun Science in Class 4!

To introduce our ‘electricity’ topic, this afternoon Class 4 explored a range of items including topic books, buzz wire games, remote control cars, plugs and circuit making equipment.  They had lots of fun.

Parking

Please could we remind all parents and adults using the school car park that parking is not permitted in the bus lane at any time.  If the school car park is full at the start or end of the day, please use the village hall car park.

We thank you in advance for your support with this.

Welcome Back to Nursery

It was lovely to see the children settling in so well on the first day back and enjoying exploring the new areas and resources in the Nursery, both indoors and outdoors.

Over the next week we will be developing a new way of children choosing their school lunch. This will involve children placing their name against the lunch choices, with parent support, and we thank you for your support with this in advance.

Just a reminder that Breakfast Club is now open to Nursery children from aged 3 upwards, as well as the after-school clubs on Monday to Thursday. At present, Nursery children are unable to attend Cross Country Club.  If you have any questions about the clubs available to Nursery children and costs, please speak to a member of staff.

Many thanks.

Well done Class 4!

The children in Class 4 have had a wonderful day. They have all enjoyed being together and catching up with news about their holiday adventures.

Today, the children were introduced to our new ‘Novel Study’ which will be ‘Charlotte’s Web’. We read a section from Chapter One and the children were asked to discuss the events and give their thoughts and feelings about what had happened and how it had made them feel. The children worked really hard to talk to each other and keep on task to record their ideas by writing them in thought bubbles.

We spent time exploring place value in Maths. Children had to identify the value of different digits in 3 and 4-digit numbers. We used number cards to make a range of numbers and the children had to write the values of the digit in place value grids. We then found the biggest and smallest numbers and also put all of the numbers in order from biggest to smallest.

This afternoon, we talked about the qualities of a person in Class 4 and what we would like to continue to grow as. For example, the children suggested that they wanted to continue to grow as writers, historians, artists, mathematicians, Christians, good friends, actors and many more! The children used Microsoft Publisher to create signs for a display board to remind us of what we are working hard to be.

The Class 4 newsletter has been placed in the Class 4 noticeboard and it will be uploaded onto here tomorrow.

Well done Class 4 – it was a great day!

Mrs Conde.

First Day Back

We have had a busy first day in Class 2 today! The children have enjoyed sharing their Summer holiday adventures and showed each other what they have collected in their envelopes. If you still wish to bring in any envelopes they will be going on display at the end of the week.

The children were introduced to their new History topic ‘Toys – past and present’. We had a class discussion about our favourite toys and the children had fun painting their favourite toy for a display. I have challenged the children to ask an older person at home what they used to play with when they were younger. We will be starting our lesson (next Thursday), sharing our findings. Any notes or photos to help the children with this would be greatly appreciated. Some children have had fun in our new role play area this afternoon, which is our new Toy Shop outside Class 2.

A curriculum letter has been sent home today, giving an overview of what to expect this term. A copy is attached below.
