English in the Forest area

We had a lovely morning in the Forest School area for English today. The children discussed what they imagined Beegu’s planet to be like and thought about how they could create her a home using the materials outside. The children were then challenged to make Beegu and her friends little homes in the Forest School.

Foot size investigation

Thank you for providing the Class with shoes to sort, wrapping paper and boxes this week.

On Tuesday the children found lots of different sized shoes, they ordered them in length order.

Some children started to think about who the shoes belonged too, some children thought the biggest shoes would belong to the tallest person.

This led onto the class thinking about how they could investigate and find out.

We decided to measure the height of each child in the class, make a footprint and cut it out.  From there the children were able to order the footprints and work out if the tallest children in the class really did have the biggest feet.!

Our investigation revealed that the tallest person in our class didn’t not have the biggest feet.

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: We have continued to use the book ‘Tuesday’ to inspire our writing and have been focusing on recounts this week. The children have been finding out about the features of a recount and have been writing some of their own in the form of a police report.

The Year 2 children have been practising their handwriting, spelling and punctuation in some focused sessions and the year 3 children have been learning about writing in different tenses.

Maths: We have been working with money this week which the children have really enjoyed and have been really good at! We have been identifying coins and notes, adding combinations of coins and notes and been finding different ways to make an amount of money.

Science: We has a visit from Mr Burston this week to help us learn about our bones and muscles. Please see below post for photographs!

RE: The children have been learning about how and why Christians pray.

Geography: The children have spent some time exploring landmarks in London through Google Earth this week.

Well done Class 3 for working hard this week!

We have also welcomed two student teachers from Chester University to our class – Miss McCormick and Miss Roberts – they have sent home a letter introducing themselves.

Sewing Club

Sewing club have been busy making a range of items after school each week.  They have extra help lately with Charlotte Voyce from the Corbet School, as part of her Duke of Edinburgh award.

English Lesson in the Forest School

Just a reminder, following my message on Friday – I would like to take the children into the Forest School tomorrow morning as part of our English lesson. Please could the children come in any old clothing and appropriate footwear e.g. wellies or walking boots. They will also need a waterproof coat and if available, waterproof trousers. If the weather is a little bit wet we will still go outside! The children will need to bring their school clothes to change into afterwards and their PE kits for PE with Mr Bebb in the afternoon.

Thank you

Miss Edwards

Google Earth

As part of our geography lesson today, the children were introduced to Google Earth. They were very excited to find out that you can use it to go anywhere you want to in the world and we had a great time exploring some famous landmarks in London. Please feel free to encourage your child to keep exploring Google Earth at home if this is possible. Some other ideas of places the children could find which link to our UK topic could be the other capital cities of the UK or any other cities the children know of or have heard about.

It was lovely to see the children so enthusiastic about their geography learning today!

After-school clubs

If your child is staying to after-school clubs, it is vital that school or nursery are informed.  Please write this in your child’s home-school link book, tell a member of staff or telephone the office. This is part of our safeguarding procedures and prevents us having to contact you to ask why your child has not been collected. Many thanks.

Class 3 Science Lesson

Class 3 had a visit from Mr Burston today who came in to help us learn all about our bones and muscles. We had great fun meeting Brian the skeleton and watching two of the children being put in casts!

PE: movement

Today we moved in different ways around the hall.  We pretended we were in the jungle and had to escape some fierce lions.
