Oak class fundraising

cake sale

Next week, Oak Class will be attending a Christingle Service at Shrewsbury Abbey.
We will be bringing with us a donation to The Children’s Society on behalf of Bicton School and we have set ourselves a target of £100.
Oak Class have decided to hold a bake sale to raise the money and we would be hugely grateful for any cake/cookie/flapjack/traybake donations for Year 6 to sell at breaktime and lunchtime.
Please bring in any baking donations in the morning on Tuesday 28th November and thank you in advance for your support.
(No nuts and please attach a list of ingredients in homemade donations).

Thank you in advance for your support.

Weekly News 24.11.23

Hello everyone,

I hope this newsletter finds you well. Our thoughts this week have been with the families of the four local boys who tragically died earlier this week. I am sure they have been in your prayers, as they have in our worship in school.

With much love,

Mrs Johnson x

‘The Darwin Oak’ event

You may have seen in the press or on social media that there is an opportunity to paint or draw ‘The Darwin Oak’, a 550 year old oak growing on Shelton Rough, on Sunday 26th November from 10 am.
Rob McBride (TV’s Tree Hunter) and local artist, Dan Lewellyn Hall will be leading the event. All artwork will be exhibited at Bear Steps Gallery after the event.
If you do go along, feel free to email me any photos of children and families taking part.

Dear Friends around Severn Loop,

As a town, we have been heartbroken by the loss of four of our boys – Jevon, Harvey, Wilf and Hugo. As you will probably know by now, all of the boys lived in parishes neighbouring Bicton so were very local indeed, and known to many of us. We are of course praying for their families and friends, and many churches around the town are open for this purpose. Amongst them, Trinity Churches in Meole Brace is open from 9am- 4pm today (they all attended Meole Brace School), and Oxon Church is open from 6.30pm this evening (three of the boys lived in Oxon). I went there with my daughter last night, and people were so grateful for a place that provided a focus for their grief – it was clearly needed. Whatever your thoughts, feelings, connections or beliefs at this agonising time, please do come along if you would like to.
With love and blessings,
Hannah x

PCC John Campion launches mini police officer competition

As part of Road Safety Week, Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) John Campion is proud to be launching his mini police officer poster competition.

Through his Safer West Mercia Plan, the PCC is committed to reducing harm on our roads and wants to ensure children get to school safely.

As such, the PCC is launching a poster designing competition to understand what road safety looks like to young people and is asking young people to demonstrate “how I get to school safely”.

Winning schools will get a “mini police officer” sign that can be placed outside to remind road users to “Slow down” or “Think before you park”.

We would LOVE to win a “mini police officer” sign for our school and we encourage children to take part.  If your child wants to enter the competition, they can collect an entry form from the school office. We may also have time before the end of term to design some posters in school.

Please return all entries to the school office by Monday 18th December so that we can scan and email them to the organisers before the Friday 22nd December deadline.

Christmas performances

As you are hopefully aware, children in Willow and Birch will be doing a joint nativity performance this year. This is taking place in Bicton Church on the morning of Wednesday 13th December – start time to be confirmed.

Children in Maple, Rowan and Oak are doing two performances of ‘The Magical Christmas Jigsaw.’ Both performances are in school on the evenings of Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th starting at 6:00 pm. Further details regarding timings and tickets for the KS2 performances will follow next week.

Thank you in advance for your support in helping your child learn song lyrics or their speaking parts!

Children In Need Grand Total

Thank you for the donations for wearing non-uniform on Friday and for the cake sale. We raised a grand total of £269.50, including £36 paid via our JustGiving page, which is an amazing effort. Well done everyone!

Parking – polite reminder

Please do not block in other vehicles at the end of the school day, including staff cars, as this prevents people getting out of their parking space and can make them late getting to their next destination. Thank you
