Class 2 Weekly Update

English: This week in English we have continued to practise using the suffixes ‘s’ and ‘es’ and the prefix ‘un’ to change the meaning of words. Yesterday the children made clay monsters to link with our story ‘Not Now, Bernard’ and today we will be writing instructions on how we made our clay monsters. They did a fantastic job! There are lots of little artists in Class 2. I have attached the photos below.

Maths: We have moved onto telling the time this week. We began the week using language such as before and after e.g. I have a bath before I go to bed. I play outside after I have had my lunch. We then moved onto telling time to the hour and half hour.

Science: In Science the children went on a hunt around the school to identify different types of plant e.g. daisies, dandelions, clover, etc.

History: In history the children identified photographs of seaside holidays 100 years ago, 50 years ago and now. They then designed their own bathing suits for a 100 years ago, 50 years ago and today.

RE: The children learned about the Hindu creation story yesterday. They had part of the story given to them and had to draw pictures to reflect their part in the story.

Spellings: To be tested Friday 29th June 2018.

Homework: We have been practising our reasoning and problem solving skills in Maths and I’d like the children to complete homework on this relating to our time work this week. They may need some adult support with this as we are still developing our skills. The sheet they have been provided with has a small space for them to explain their answers so please use the back of the sheet if needed. When the sheet says “Explain how you know”, please could you encourage your child to write a full sentence and avoid saying “because I looked carefully”. If you’d like to write any notes at the bottom of the sheet to indicate how much support your child needed – then please feel free to do so. Homework Due in: Friday 29th June 2018.

Sports Day: Just a reminder that Sports Day is on Tuesday 26th June. The children were given a letter on Wednesday explaining which team they are in and which colour we would like them to wear.

Thank you for your continued support.

Miss Edwards

Handwriting outside

On Wednesday we had lots of fun out on the playground for our handwriting lesson. The children had chunky chalks to practise their letter formation and joins.

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: We have continued learning about persuasive writing this week. The children have been learning how to write exaggerated sentences with powerful adjectives and have been planning their own advert for their chocolate bar design for Willy Wonka’s factory.

Maths: We have continued our work on division this week. The Year 2 children have been dividing by 5 and 10 and have been working mentally to solve a variety of different reasoning problems. The Year 3 children have been learning the bus stop method with remainders and carrying.

Science: The children have been learning about the good and bad things about the sun and how we can protect ourselves from its dangers. They created a poster explaining this.

History: We have done some role play about what it was like for the Celts when the Romans invaded Britain and we then wrote a diary as a Celt explaining what happened and how we felt.

Art: We have started to make the side pieces for our helmet and will attach and paint these next week.

PE: We have continued with our tennis and swimming lessons this week as well as practising for sports day.

Well done Class 3 for another great week!

Concord Choir Competition

I would just like to say a very big WELL DONE to the children who took part in the Concord College Choir Competition today. They made us all very proud and had fantastic comments from the judges, parents and the other schools participating.

I would also like to say a very big THANK YOU to Mr Williams who has been fantastic at helping to prepare the children for this competition.

Keep a look out on the school choir page for the videos from today!

Imperial War Museum Visit

On behalf of all the staff who accompanied Class 5 to Manchester today, we would like to say a huge well done and thank you to all the children for their exemplary behaviour and for such an enjoyable day!  We took over 200 photos so we will upload a gallery of images tomorrow but, in the meantime, here’s a taster…

Bushcraft Day at Adcote School

Year 5s enjoyed a fabulous day of bushcraft activities at Adcote School.  They are now in the process of creating their own display of the visit and writing thank you letters to the Adcote staff.
