Arthog – Important information

The children have been told that they MUST wear a t-shirt which covers their shoulders on the beach. If they come to school wearing a vest top, they must have a t-shirt in their rucksack to wear when we get to Fairbourne beach. They must also have a sun hat and sun cream in their rucksack, together with footwear e.g. crocs, which they can wear in the sea, as they will be able to paddle with the adults.  We will try and post some photos tomorrow afternoon and we are looking forward to a fabulous weekend! 😀

Class 3 Trip to the Roman Dewa Museum

We had a great time on our Roman Soldier Patrol and exploring the museum!

Yesterday, your child should’ve come home with a letter outlining the details of our trip tomorrow. I have attached a copy below.

End-of-term BBQ

We are looking forward to our end-of-year World Cup BBQ for families and friends next Friday 6th July from 3:30 until 7:00.  Refreshments will include a BBQ and salads, a bar, ice-cream and sweet stalls, as well as face painting and games to entertain the children (and adults!)  We are also hoping to have a tombola so if you have any bottles/toiletries/unwanted gifts etc that you are able to donate, please leave them on the table at reception.  We hope you will be able to join us.

And yes…we will be showing the football, if England make it through to the quarter finals!

Class 5 update 22.06.18

English

In English this week, children have written newspaper reports focusing on the search for and subsequent rescue of Willie from his home in London.  Next week we will be using Willie’s holiday at the seaside with Mister Tom, as a focus for poetry writing.

Maths

We have continued with our work on line graphs. This has included solving problems on graphs with several lines, suggesting contexts for given graphs without labels and titles and also creating our own line graphs to show how food prices have risen over the years.

Science

In science we have started to learn about how the human eye works and the different functions of each part of the eye.  We will continue with this next week and start to discuss colour blindness and also how periscopes work.

History

We have continued with our research on the role of the Home Guard during World War 2.

Sports Day

Just a reminder that all children will need to bring a hat and drinks bottle for Sports Day on Tuesday. Children may come to school wearing their PE kit and trainers and they do not have to bring uniform to change back into at lunchtime unless they want to.  Please can all children have sun cream applied before coming to school. Thank you.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.

It is currently forecasting very hot weather for Sports Day on Tuesday so children will need sun-cream applied before coming to school. They will also need to bring a drinks bottle and a sun hat. The kitchen will provide a picnic lunch which will consist of pizza or hotdog, chips or pasta and a cookie or a muffin as well as a bottle of water.  The events for Classes 3, 4 and 5 will begin at 9.30am and we are aiming to finish by 12.00 p.m. Please feel free to bring a picnic lunch to share with your child, if you are staying for the afternoon events (for Classes 1 and 2) or just for lunchtime.  At the end of the day, please collect your child from the classroom at 3.15 p.m. as normal.

Please could you let the office know on Monday if you have a gazebo which we are able to borrow for Sports Day.  Many thanks.

Class 4 weekly update

English – Writing events of Chapter 16 from the perspective of either the character Millicent or Colin.  We discussed the key events in the chapter and made a plan of our first person narrative, making notes on the events/feelings of the characters and recording a range of cohesive devises to use in our work.  Then we wrote a first draft of our narrative and edited and improved our ideas.  The children all worked really hard to include all the features we discussed.

Maths – We have started a new unit: ‘Position and Direction’.  Year 4 children have been describing position and drawing on a grid using a set of coordinates.  Year 5 children have been looking at position of points/shapes in the first quadrant and reflection of points/shapes with coordinates.

Topic – We continued to compare schools in Ancient Greece and modern Britain. The children did further research to find out lots more interesting facts of their own to compare schools.

RE – We discussed the behavior of Adam and Eve and whether what they did was right or wrong.  They also talked about the part of the story where they ate the fruit is known as ‘the Fall’.  The children then used the events in the story to produce the front page for the ‘Eden Times’ newspaper to describe what happened.

Spellings – To be tested on THURSDAY 28TH JUNE due to Year 5’s going to Arthog on Friday.

Spellings 22-6-18

Homework – Maths work on coordinates / angles.

Well done Class 4, you’ve all worked hard this week!  It’s great to be back and lovely to see you all.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Videos: Bicton Choir at Concord College Choir Competition

Our choir did an amazing job at entertaining the audience at Concord College yesterday.

Every school were given the song ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams to perform and in addition to that we were allowed to choose an additional song from within the theme of ‘Pop songs’

We chose the pop song ‘Reach’ by S Club 7 which the choir performed extremely well.  We received lots of praise from the judge who loved the happiness of our choir and the high standard of their performance. He said that he had found it very difficult to choose between us and the winning choir (who’s pop song choice was ‘Sing’ from the Military Wives choir at the Commonwealth Games, which sounded fantastic!). Many parents and teachers from the audience commended our choir’s performance at the end which certainly made us all feel like winners!

Here are the videos of our performances
