Head of School Message

Dear parents/carers,

School has been very calm and quiet this week as lots of the children have been completing statutory assessments.  Our Year 1 children have completed their Phonics Screening Check and our Year 4s have completed the Multiplication Tables Check.  The children worked exceptionally hard and I would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Gairy, Mrs Walker and Mrs Ryan, Miss Nagington and Miss Guy for all of their hard work and preparation for the children.

Some of our KS2 children also enjoyed a trip to the Corbet for a Mini Athletics tournament – photos below!

Our Year 4 children are getting very excited for their trip to Liverpool next Wednesday.  Parents/carers please note that children must be dropped of at St John the Baptist primary school in Ruyton XI Towns, SY4 1LA (7.30am on Wednesday 18th June).

We are looking forward to our upcoming Sports Day on Thursday 26th June.  A letter has been sent home with your child reminding them which house they are in but if you are unsure, please contact your child’s class teacher.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Mavin

Mini Athletics

Crucial Crew 2025

Children in Year 6 attended Crucial Crew on Friday 6th June to learn about the kind of everyday hazards that they need to be aware of for their transition to Year 7.  Crucial Crew is vital for developing their life skills as they grow older and become more independent and a member of their local community.

In the photos below, children are experiencing the hazards of alcohol – without alcohol, of course!  They are wearing eyesight impairment goggles and are having to carry out simple actions.

During the day, children also learned about hazards in their local environment: water safety, fire safety, electrical safety, alcohol and vapes.  They learned how to behave near railway lines and the dangers of fast moving trains.  The police spoke to them about their responsibilities in the community and how the police become involved.  The farming community showed them how dangerous large machinery is and how to behave around it.

Lastly, they met a host of children from a range of other schools who were also in Year 6 and who will also be transitioning to secondaries in the area in September.
