Head of School Message

Dear parents/carers,

As we come to the end of a short but wonderfully busy Spring term, we want to thank you for your continued support. The children have worked incredibly hard, and we rounded off the term beautifully with our Easter service and a fantastic iRock concert—both real highlights that showcased the talent and spirit of our school community.

We now look forward to an exciting Summer term ahead. With the promise of lighter mornings, brighter evenings, and (hopefully!) a little more sunshine, there should be plenty to enjoy. Events such as our Springo fundraiser, Sports Day, and many more activities are already on the horizon, and we can’t wait to share them with you.

Wishing all our families a restful, refreshing break and we look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 13th April.

A Wonderful Day at the Field Studies Council

Willow Class had a fabulous day at the Field Studies Council in Preston Montford, joining Katy the caterpillar to learn about life cycles, camouflage and habitats. We explored the woodland, meadow and pond, tackling the fun challenges Katy left for us. The children used simple equipment to observe and identify lots of different bugs and creatures and how they are adapted to their habitat.

Forest Church – Lambing

Dear Friends,
As you know, it’s Forest Church this coming Sunday, 3pm at Huffley, by kind permission of Charlotte Shepherd. Charlotte will be lambing, and is very happy for us to watch! As we think about new life at Easter, it’s a wonderful experience to see that coming into the world. Do join us if you’d like to.
There are risks involved- we ask that on this occasion no dogs come along, and also nobody who is pregnant- this is because sheep can carry certain infections that can seriously harm unborn children. There are also emotional risks- whilst the lambing season is going well, we never know what might happen. I will brief everybody on arrival, and provide some breakout activities if we need to distract children, but it will also be down to you to manage the emotional and practical risks for those whom you care for.
As ever, we will begin with a welcome and prayer, before heading down to the lambing shed to watch the (possible!) action. After around 45 minutes, we will gather back for a short act of worship, followed by refreshments. Do wear outdoor clothes and wellies or sturdy shoes. Directions to Huffley are at the end of this email, and when you arrive, please park near the estate offices. There will be access to a toilet and sink, and we will provide warm drinks and a snack. On this occasion, we are on private land, so we’re very grateful for the privilege.
We look forward to seeing you!
With thanks and blessings,
Hannah x
Directions to Huffley
At the roundabout at the end of Ellesmere Road/ Huffley Lane, take the road towards Wem (A528).
Continue for less than a mile. Quite soon….

Immediately opposite the Albright Hussey Manor there is a turning into a lane on your left: turn left here.

Follow the lane down (watch out for the speed bump(s)!) and you come to a point (not very far) where the lane divides – fork LEFT here.  (Usually the gate to the right is shut anyway.)

Go under a pylon, and carry on towards the farm.

As you come into where the farm buildings are, you’ll see a new 2 storey building to the right.  This is the Huffley Estate Office- park near there.

Best Kept Village Competition

We are delighted to be supporting the village in entering the Best Kept Village Competition and the Parish Council have requested some posters created by the children, promoting the competition and encouraging the wider community to get involved.

If your child would like to take part, please bring an A4-size poster into school in the first week back after Easter and we will laminate them ready for display in the village.

More information on how you can help is available here: Best Kept Village

Languages Day – Volunteers Needed!

We need YOUR help!

As many of you will know, new housing developments in Bicton mean more families will hopefully be joining our community. When this happens, developers pay something called the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) to the council, which can then be used to improve local facilities—including schools. We are hoping to secure some of this funding to help us enhance our buildings and learning spaces so we can continue to provide safe, high‑quality provision for all our children. Importantly, CIL funding supports long‑term improvements without taking money away from day‑to‑day teaching and resources, so it would make a real difference to the opportunities we can offer.

We would be very grateful if you could follow the link to the survey to share your thoughts and ideas. You don’t need to live in Bicton, you are still a member of the community if your children/grandchildren/nieces/nephews/cousins/friends attend the school.

Thank you!
