Maths

This week we have concentrated on number bonds for 6 and 7.

The children have investigated different ways to make these numbers.

Children chose their own ways e.g. sharing beans into plant pots, using the numicon, putting double coloured beans in a pot and shaking it to see which side they landed on and then working out the part, part whole.

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: We have continued our work on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this week. The Year 3 children have been writing a newspaper report about the finding of the fifth and final golden ticket. They have been challenged to include all the key features such as a headline, quote, introductory paragraph and a concluding paragraph.

The Year 2 children have enjoyed listening to the story this week and have  been doing some revision in preparation for their SATS.

Maths: This week we have continued our work on fractions. The year 3 children have done really well at learning how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator. They have done some good problem solving and reasoning relating to this, focusing on giving clear explanations for their answers.

The Year 2 children have been going over equivalent fractions – knowing that a half is the same as two quarters. They have also been doing practise and revision for their SATS.

Science: We have started to plan an investigation to find out about the hardness of different rocks and to find out if they absorb water or not. We will carry out the investigation next week.

History: We have been learning about the Roman Army this week. We have found out about the uniform a Roman soldier would wear and the purpose of it. The children have also enjoyed using the internet and books to do their own research to find out more about the Roman Army.

Computing: The children have continued to develop their programming skills on scratch and have been learning how to control two images on the screen.

RE: The children have been continuing to learn what Christians believe about God and have been listening to a selection of Bible stories to help them understand this.

Year 6 Revision activities – Purple Mash

Year 6 children can use the English Grammar online activities on Purple Mash (shown below), in preparation for SATs the week after next.

They can also use the online Maths activities to practise different maths skills including the four  operations of  addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  I have shown a few suggested activities below which are all ready-made games in 2Race and encourage quick recall of number facts. However, children can access any activities, which they find useful. If your child has forgotten their log in details, please let me know. Thank you.

Class 2 Forest School session 3

I just want to say a big thank you to the parents who came to Forest School this morning! It was a very different session taking shelter in the eco-room, but it was lovely to see you all getting involved and the children loved sharing their outdoor learning with you.

Could I please ask all parents to sign in through reception next week and leave their phones with the office? We are looking forward to next weeks session!

Class 2 Forest School Session

Thank you to the parents that have confirmed they are attending tomorrows Forest School sessions. The children are looking forward to spending the morning sharing their outdoor learning with you.

We are expecting rain tomorrow so waterproof clothing would be advisable!

Parents who have confirmed they are attending the first session should arrive for 9am and parents attending the second session should arrive for 10:30am.

See you tomorrow.
