Head of School Message
Dear parents/carers,
It was wonderful to hear that so many families joined us for our Harvest Festival this week. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend, but I have received many positive comments about the children’s excellent contributions and behaviour. The staff were incredibly proud of the children, who represented the school so well through their singing, readings and reflections. Thank you also for your generous donations to Shrewsbury Food Hub. Your kindness will make a real difference to local families in need.

Looking ahead to next week and beyond:
- Parent Meetings will take place on Wednesday and Thursday next week. Based on parent feedback, we have moved back to the individual appointment set up. Appointments can be booked directly through the school website.
- Wear Red Day will be held on Friday 16th October, alongside a cake sale. Please see the separate post here for full details.
- Bicton Park Run Takeover is on Sunday 18th October – details here
- On Tuesday 20th October, pupils will take part in an exciting African Mask-Making Workshop. Payment can be made via School Gateway. Please ensure payment is made promptly, as sufficient uptake is needed for the workshop to go ahead.
- We are looking forward to our PE Performances for Reception to Year 6 on Thursday 22nd October at 2.30pm. Families are warmly invited to attend and celebrate the children’s achievements.
- A reminder that tickets for our Spooky Dance are still available. Please see the separate post here for further details.
Finally, a reminder that school breaks up for half term on Friday 23rd October.

Junior Park Run Bicton Primary School takeover – 18th October
This is the first time Bicton Primary School has taken over the junior park run. Please come and support the school and the run. Its a lovely event for children and free.
If you need information about the course, parking and start point, please go online:
https://www.parkrun.org.uk/shrewsbury-juniors/
Top tips:
1,) Arrive 8:45am or earlier for a 9:00am start (there will be a fun warm up for a few minutes)
2,) Parking at Julian Friars car park, postcode: SY1 1XL
3,) The run starts the at the Julian Friar end of the park (stop cafe end but higher up and near the tennis courts)
4,) Free and worth registering before hand: need number to give at the end for timing (can be printed out): shrewsburyjunior@parkrun.com
By having a number it helps with safety of running the event and so they can record how may runners took part
5.) It does not have to be a run, you can walk sections or most of it and/ or do. a slow jog. It is just about being active and getting round.
6.) You can go round with your child or watch them from the start/finish line (starts and finishes the same place)
We have 10 marshals from our school community cheering you all the way and will be all the way along the course!!! So lots of familiar faces supporting the event.
We will have a lovely stall with refreshments and cake to help raise money for the play park/adventure area and supported by Friends of Bicton. Please bring change or you can use the QR code to pay on the day.
Please come and support this event, whether you are taking part or cheering fellow friends/children round the track.

Football Success
This week, a group of Year 3 and 4 pupils proudly represented our school at a football tournament at Bowbrook School. The team showed fantastic enthusiasm, determination and teamwork throughout the event, finishing in an impressive 3rd place overall.
The children performed brilliantly, winning two matches 3-0 and 5-0, drawing one game and narrowly losing two others. Their positive attitude, encouragement of one another and excellent sportsmanship were evident throughout the afternoon.
We are incredibly proud of all the children who took part and the way they represented our school. Well done to the whole team on a fantastic achievement!

Spooky Party – Thursday 22nd October

Wear Red Day – Friday 16th October
Wear Red Day – Friday 16th October❤️
On Wear Red Day, children are invited to wear something red to school as we join schools across the country in supporting the charity Show Racism the Red Card. Throughout the day, classes will take part in age-appropriate activities to help children learn about racism, equality, kindness and respect.
We suggest a £1 donation (payable via School Gateway), which Bicton will donate to the charity on behalf of our school community.
Cake Sale 🍰
We’ll also be holding a cake sale, and donations of cakes and treats would be greatly appreciated. If you’re able to bake or donate, please include an ingredients list and avoid any nuts. As we are a cashless school, please make a donation towards any cake purchases (suggested £1) alongside your Wear Red Day £1!
Thank you for helping us support this important cause. 😊
A model of the heart
As part of our science topic about the heart and lungs, Oak class made a model of the heart. This helped them to understand the blood flow within the heart.

Birch Class Update
This week we made chocolate cornflake cakes. We then wrote instructions for how to make them. We had to make sure our instructions were clear so other people can understand them. We used sequencers and imperative (bossy) verbs in our work.
As a part of our art lessons, we have been learning about art work created by famous artist Heather Hansen where she creates large pieces of art based on music and dance.
