Head of School Message

Dear parents/carers,

It has been a wonderfully sunny week and there has been a very cheerful and hardworking atmosphere around school.  Year 6 in particular are working very hard in the run up to their SATs but it has been wonderful to see the diligence and effort children of all year groups are putting into their work to make it the best it can be!

Last Saturday, Bicton took part in the Shropshire School’s Half-Marathon for the first time.  33 children took part, making us all so proud with their energy and enthusiasm! A huge thank you to Libby Wynne and the other parent helpers for their time and energy in arranging our school to take part. It was a very warm morning and the children did so well.

Have a lovely long weekend,

Mrs Mavin

MAY LOOP 2026

The Easter Season continues…

It was wonderful to see so many folk around our church communities as we celebrated Easter- beginning with… wait for it… 22 people at Battlefield at 5am! What a joy. As we continue to journey with Jesus in hope, we will celebrate the Ascension at Battlefield too- 4pm, Thursday, 14th May, followed by refreshments in the sunshine (we hope). Do join us.  As a reminder of last year, here is the Station of the Resurrection for the Ascension- at Montford (brilliantly depicted!).

Forest Church

We had a fab time at Forest Church at Preston Montford Field Studies Centre- we were small in number, but the advantage of that was that we all had a go at pond-dipping! Sue Dancey led us through the afternoon, and we all learnt so much. Our next Forest Church will be on The Isle Estate, 28th June 2026, 3pm.

Loopy Sundays

Our new, informal Sunday afternoon worship is continuing into March! We are meeting at 3pm on the 10th May at the Mission Church in Bomere Heath. Do join us for an afternoon of interactive Bible stories and activities, singing and snacking, suitable for all ages. This month will be all about things that go up, as our interactive story focuses on Jesus’ ascension to heaven. Join us for informal worship, prayer activities, and the ever present refreshments. Feel free to just turn up, but if you’d like to find out more in advance, do email Dave – rev.latcham@gmail.com.

Grief Encounters

We are beginning a new ministry- an informal friendship café for the recently bereaved. We are hoping to run one three times a year, at different locations. Hannah will be writing to the families of those whose funerals we looked after, to invite them along. We’re very much aware that also includes quite a few of you- if you are interested in finding out more, do contact Hannah. The first one will be at Shrawardine, 30th June, 4pm.

Attendance

I want to stress how vital regular school attendance is for your child’s learning, wellbeing and future opportunities.
Evidence consistently shows that even small amounts of time missed from school quickly add up: pupils with attendance below 95% are significantly more likely to fall behind academically, particularly in reading, writing and mathematics, and gaps that develop early can be difficult to close. Good attendance also supports children’s social development, helping them build friendships, routines and confidence.
While we fully understand that medical and dental care is important, research shows that appointments scheduled during the school day are a common and avoidable cause of absence. Wherever possible, we therefore ask families to book routine appointments outside school hours, or during holidays, so that learning time is protected. By working together to prioritise attendance, you are giving your child the best chance to achieve their full potential and to develop positive habits that will support them throughout their education and beyond.
