Junk model castles

This afternoon in Class 2, we have been making castles from junk. The children’s junk modelling skills have been absolutely fantastic! They have all been discussing as a group who will make which part of the castle. We have seen moats, turrets, battlements, drawbridges and much more! Well done class 2 for such a fantastic afternoon.

Maths game

Year 2 children have been weighing items to the nearest 100g this week, our starter today was a game of ‘MostlyPostie’ on ICT games. The children enjoyed this game and would like the link to play it at home.

Enjoy 🙂

Never a dull day…

It’s certainly never a dull day at Bicton, as you can see from the gallery below!  We had some unexpected visitors shortly after 7:30 this morning so it was quite an experience for the staff as well as the children arriving for Breakfast Club.

Thankfully Mrs Ross and Mrs Hill came to the rescue and stepped in to escort the horses back to their field, accompanied by Miss Moran (in some very inappropriate footwear!)  – thank you ladies 🙂 Thank you to the children for being so sensible and to all the staff who directed traffic, escorted children safely past the horses and for cleaning up what the horses left behind!

Class 3 Homework

This week the children have been set some maths homework on purple mash (paper copies have been given out to the  children who requested them).

Chinese New Year

The children in Class 1 have been finding out all about Chinese New Year this week.

In Literacy we read the Story of the race  – http://www.topmarks.co.uk/ChineseNewYear/ZodiacStory.aspx

Then in Maths we looked at what an ordinal number is and used the animals from the story to help us understand 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc.

In P.E.  we leaned a Lion Dance and found out that Dragons don’t like red.

In art / DT the children made lanterns and lion masks.

The children found out how to write their initials in Chinese writing.

Finally some of the children enjoyed eating Chinese food for their lunch.

Sporting events

Well done to the children who took part in the Sportshall athletics event at The Corbet on Monday evening.  We have also had great success in the recent cross country league at The Corbet.  After the individual finishing positions were collated, from all the primary school pupils competing, 6 of our pupils have progressed to the Level 2 event in February. This is a fantastic achievement and makes all those cold nights at The Corbet worth it!

Lunch money

The School Kitchen have asked if all dinner money can be paid promptly.  It is Shire Services’ policy that the Kitchen will only provide children with a school meal for a maximum of 3 days without payment being received.  If you have any queries about this, please speak to myself, Mrs Jones or Mrs Neal.

Class 3 Weekly Update

It’s been another great week in Class 3…..

English – We have continued reading some Roman Myths. The children have done some independent writing where they were re-telling a myth from the perspective of one of the main characters. They have also done some research on Roman gods/goddesses and have even created their own!

Maths – We have been learning about different types of angles this week – right angle, obtuse and acute. We have also been learning about how many degrees are in different turns and have played some games to practise using lots of good mathematical language relating to this.

French – We have begun to learn the names for different items of clothing this week.

Computing – The children have continued to practise their programming skills by playing on scratch.

RE – We have continued to learn about the Holy Trinity. The children matched some kenning poems to each part of the trinity – God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit –  and then had a go at writing some of their own.

PSHE – We have been looking at bullying this week – what it is and how we can spot it.

PE – We have continued to learn some country dancing this week and have done some fitness activities.

The children have been set some maths homework on purple mash this week. Children who needed paper copies have been given these as requested. This homework is due in on Friday 3rd February.

Have a lovely weekend!
