The children welcomed a special visitor into Class 1 today.  Post woman Jen came in to tell them all about her job.

The children really enjoyed meeting her and they had plenty of questions to ask.

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: This week the children have planned and written their own Roman myth. They have thought carefully about a problem for their myth and how it could be solved as well as making sure they include speech and other techniques such as conjunctions and adverbial phrases in their writing.

Maths: This week we have been learning about fractions. We have been finding fractions of shapes as well as fractions of amounts. The children have worked really hard and the visual methods we have been using have helped them to not only find unit fractions – one third, one quarter etc – but to find non-unit fractions as well – two thirds, 3 quarters etc.

Art: This week the children have been designing and making their own Roman shield. They have had to think about their design carefully to ensure it has Roman symbols included.

Computing: Children were using paint this week to learn some key skills.

PSHE: The children have continued to learn about bullying this week where they have thought carefully about how people being bullied may feel.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

This week in Class 2…

English

The children began the week looking at syllables and counting syllables in our story ‘funnybones’. Then we made a story map, discussing the events that happen in the story and placing them in the correct order.

Maths

This week we have continued with measurement but moved onto measuring weight. Year 1 have been measuring with non-standard units such as cubes and marbles and year 2 have been using grams to measure objects in a balance scale.

Phonics

Year 1: Alternative pronunciations of ‘ea’, ‘er’ and ‘a’ graphemes.

Year 2: Apostrophes for possession.

Science

In Science this week the children explored how wind makes things move. They had lots of fun outside with bubbles.

History

We looked at a range of different castles today (even Hogwarts from Harry Potter), then the children made castles from junk and did a fantastic job!

Maths

This week the children have been making up their own number stories about one and two more.  Some children even started to think about what would happen if there was one less.

The children used small world objects to help tell their story – e.g. There were 4 horses in the school field and one more came.  In pairs they worked out the new totals.  Some children will have this recorded in  their online learning journal – Tapestry.

If you see/hear your child using this language at home or in play, please do upload onto their Tapestry area.
